Rockin' Real Estate

I've got LOTS to show you!  ;)

It's a universal dream to have one's own place in which to lay our weary heads.....and in my case a place to display my rock collection, too!   ;)

Some dream of castles in the sky.....

- others wish for a private retreat.....

 - and others hope for a carefree place to chill.

Well, that's enough of the outrageous fantasy plans.....and back to reality.  Let's get real and tour some truly rockin' real estate.  I've got lots to show you.   ;)

Ko Petra, Thailand

In the following photos, all abodes are real and the majority are in use.  Marble Marvel and enjoy.

Let's start with some of the oldest; I'm sure most of these qualify for historic preservation funds.....

CARVED OUT

Uchisar Castle, Cappadocia, Turkey

Sure carved out a niche for themselves, didn't they?

Goreme, Turkey

(near) Goreme, Turkey

Cappadocia, Turkey

Cappadocia, Turkey

I got DIBS on this one.

Fairy Chimney Hotel, Goreme, Turkey

Looking for something a tiny bit more modern?

Frijoles Canyon, Bandelier National Monument, New Mexico, USA

Can you see the carved window/doorway openings way down there?  Abodes in the canyon walls!

Bandelier National Monument

Bandelier National Monument - reconstructed cliff house.

Some restoration work has been done; that's always a plus.

 Bandelier National Monument, multi-story dwelling

Bandelier National Monument - cliff longhouse.

And now for something completely different.....

Instead of literally carving out space to construct a living area, here we have the space that a living area was constructed in.  Constructing vs. destructing space.....kinda, maybe?

BUILT IN

Mesa Verde National Park, Colorado, USA

Mesa Verde National Park

Mesa Verde

Yah, I think this way of building a home is easier than carving a home.  Yup.  Easier...and it's got to be faster, too.  Right?

Either way, carve out, built in, it looks like the idea has 'caught' on.....

Looks small, but it's home.  Besides who knows how far and wide it is on the inside?

Marjan, Croatia

I wonder how many times the dang neighbor kids have stolen the ladder?   ;D

Salzburg, Austria
Here we have the stealth model.

Even equipped with satellite.

 Cavehouse in Festus, Missouri, USA
Boasts 17,000 square feet!  (natural cave with some carving here and there)

Lots of room.....for parking?  I didn't see a garage door......hmmm.

Somewhere in southern Utah, USA

If the goal was to blend in, those windows were a poor choice.  Too bad they didn't have them match the door casing.  That would have been gorgeous.

Cool house, A+, but C- for stealth.

Beckham Creek Cave Haven (Lodge), Parthenon, Arkansas, USA

Beckham Creek Cave Haven
Natural and Stylized Decor.  Hey, do you see the pots and bowls on the floor?  I'ts to catch the drips; it's still a living cave!

Feeling claustrophobic?  I sure am.  Still like the idea living inside rock and perhaps not interested in a whole mountain side?  How about detached models?  Free standing (not attached to a mountain) rock homes like these might be nice:

Whoa, this one has it's own waterfall atop!  Oh, but maybe that's the sprinkler system?

Next, we have detached, single family rocks dwellings.

I quite like this one.

The next home is an extreme (to me at least) example; rock home in Spain:

Perfect example of "how not to be seen"..... A+ for stealth.  Did you spot it?

Opposite end.  A really strange rock to begin with, dontcha think?  Looks like layers of cement left-over deposits.

The entrance.  May need to lay in a supply of band-aids if you go in and out often, and a mending kit or lots of disposable clothing.  Hopefully more smoothing of the rough edges are in the planning.

And here we have it at a glance; single detached studio rock apartment.  Yikes, I do not like the looks of that 'ceiling'.  Cave-in anyone?

Nice view; cozy fire.

Glove-compartment style bathroom.

Oh dear, the shower wall is showing signs of mildew/mold/moss, and leaking.....from the outside?  The open-air skylight is.....nice...well, I didn't see a chimney so maybe the skylight doubles as a flue?

Hopefully window shades will be the next installment, what with the bed being right there and no shower curtain.....just sayin'.   :D

I believe I'll keep looking for my perfect piece of 'Rockin' Real Estate'.  Thanks for taking the tour!
